Dr. Md. Armanul Islam is a highly experienced Colorectal, Laparoscopic and General Surgeon in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with about 20 years of combined clinical and surgical experience. He is currently serving as a Resident Surgeon in the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, one of the leading tertiary care hospitals in Bangladesh.
He obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Rajshahi in 2007 and later completed FCPS in Surgery and FCPS in Colorectal Surgery from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS). Dr. Islam also holds internationally recognized professional affiliations, including FACS, FICS, and FMAS (India), reflecting his commitment to maintaining global standards in surgical care.
Dr. Islam manages a high-volume colorectal service, attending regular outpatient clinics and performing advanced colorectal procedures for both benign and malignant conditions. His expertise includes hemicolectomy, total colectomy, anterior resection, APER, stoma creation and closure, hemorrhoid, fissure and fistula management (including laser techniques), rectal prolapse surgery and pilonidal sinus surgery. He also expertise in all types of breast surgery. In addition, he independently performs a wide range of general and laparoscopic surgeries, completing approximately 600–700 surgical cases annually across hospital and private practice.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Islam is deeply involved in medical education, research, and quality improvement. He regularly teaches undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, supervises junior doctors, and serves as an examiner for final professional MBBS examinations and postgraduate examinations under BCPS. He has completed formal training in research methodology and has authored multiple peer-reviewed scientific publications, particularly in the field of colorectal and minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Islam has held several leadership and management roles, including coordinating specialty clinics, managing surgical teams and duty rosters, overseeing outpatient and operating theatre services, and leading surgical units in the absence of senior consultants. He actively participates in clinical audits, multidisciplinary team meetings, and continuing medical education programs.
